Pan’s Labyrinth

While watching Pan’s Labyrinth I noticed a stylistic similarity in the Pale Man character to an old image of Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth. I first saw the eyes-in-hand image of Thurston in 1986 in the liner notes of their LP EVOL. I’m sure this image has some older origin, and if anyone out there knows where it might actually originate from, I’d be very interested to hear.
