little men
December 19, 2006
I got into painting miniature figures a while back. I have to admit I was a little curious about the war games and the people and the nerdy huddles of dice-throwing gamers, but my real interest was in building little cities of people and setting them up at home to photograph. Ok, I admit, I started hanging around my local comic shop to learn more about the war gaming – but I never really got into the game play. I did buy a bunch of Ragnorak lead figures to paint… but I actually liked painting junk figures and old toy men more than the special leads. Regardless, I developed terrible arthritis after painting them and carving with my x-acto so I had to stop.
Well, it’s on my list of hobbies to get back to again -especially after seeing Steve Carell painting minis in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
Yesterday I took a few photos of some of the figures I’d painted… I’ll post ‘em here. The first two are pics of normal army men size toys. The third pic is of three HO scale train people.

They are great looking …do they end up looking like people you know after you finish painting them .is that an odd question

I didn’t really think about trying to make them look like folks I know…
I don’t think they do really.
I just painted them until they looked good enough
the balding guy in the middle pic was a $1.00 store 100 for a buck figure who was a police man originally. I just carved away the extra junk until I had a normal dude figure.

these guys really take the fun out of it. I read this group for a while over a year ago – but quickly got sick of the unending set of rules and self-righteous criticisms. I just paint them for the fun of it – not for the gaming community.
